Corporate & Commercial Law

Company formation, governance, shareholder arrangements, mergers and acquisitions, and liquidation.

Qatar's companies law is one of the foundations on which commercial and investment activity in the State is organised. It provides a firm legal framework that supports the growth of both local and international companies, and it governs how companies are formed and operated in Qatar.

Forms of company

  • 01

    Limited liability company (WLL)

The most common form in Qatar. It requires at least two partners and no more than fifty, with each partner's liability limited to their contribution to the capital.

  • 02

    Public shareholding company

Formed by offering shares for public subscription, and the form best suited to larger companies seeking substantial investment.

  • 03

    Holding company

Established to control other companies by holding a sufficient share or interest in them.

  • 04

    General partnership

Founded on the unlimited liability of the partners, who bear the debts and obligations personally.

Counsel's role in forming and operating companies is central to full compliance: preparing the legal agreements, advising so that risks are avoided, and guiding on corporate tax and ownership rights.
